About Fiddle Warrior

A reference built the way fiddlers actually learn the instrument — by hand position and bow stroke — for the fiddle, the viola, and the cello.

Position first, always

Most instrument references are drawn for boards with markings on them. A bowed board has none, so a diagram that counts distances teaches the wrong habit: what a player actually carries is a hand POSITION — a fixed four-finger frame — plus the knowledge of when to leave it. Fiddle Warrior draws every page from that. Chord tones are placed by string, finger, and position, with the neighbouring pairs a single bow stroke can sound marked; scales name the position each degree belongs to and where the shifts fall; and each instrument gets honest pages of its own — the fiddle, the viola, and the cello.

Hear it, honestly

Every tone map, scale, and drill on the site plays back in the browser so your ear can check your fingers. The playback is PLUCKED: this site has no synthetic bow, and it will not pretend a sample is your arm. Use the sound for pitch and the mirror for the stroke. The tuner and metronome are free, run entirely on your device, and need no account.
